“BUZZ, BUZZ, BUZZ…” An hour later you wake to your alarm and see the time. You are going to be late for work. You think to yourself, “I stink; I am a failure.” This is shame. (Two scenarios: A) You stayed out late the night before partying – the healthy response would be to feel guilty B) You went to bed at a reasonable time- the healthy response would be to understand that you are human and make mistakes.
Do You Walk in Shame or Guilt?
It’s difficult to be perfect. Can you do it? I sure can’t. I can’t possibly know everything and do every love attribute in 1 Corinthians 13. I can forgive but it doesn’t mean I will be perfect in forgiving. I have so many falls. The sooner I realize I am a mistake maker then that’s when I won’t wallow in shame.
“…(W)e need to hear repeatedly the truth that human beings are, among other things, mistake-makers. The ancient “I-can-be-perfect-like-God” lie (as old as Eve and the serpent) is subtly seductive and incredibly resilient.”
Sandra D. Wilson. Released from Shame: Moving Beyond the Pain of the Past
I am not perfect. Today I will smile that I am a mistake maker!
Pictures were taken at the Batu Caves in Malaysia. These pictures were so much fun to take. I think the Indian race is so beautiful!
I would love to hear from you on which smile is your favorite. You can vote at the bottom of the post!
