While preparing this evening’s dinner I was thinking “why is this lamb so expensive? What are the differences between beef and lamb? How could a meal dealing with lamb be educational? (My educator mind at work).
Reasons why lamb is expensive:
1) The supply and demand in the USA is low.
2) Lambs are baby sheep, not a full grow cow, and are fed milk.
3) The American lamb community is small.
4) A historical view point, cattle vs sheep owners. Sheep owners were the enemy and the supermarkets sided with the cattle owners.
* Ground Lamb can be found at Sunflower market for about $10, not at Safeway. đ
Lamburgers recipe from Doug Kaffmann
Ingredients:
1 lb ground lamb
2 cloves garlic
2 tablespoons of fresh mint
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 small onion
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1) Chop all the ingredients
2) Mix ingredients in a bowl
3) The recipe should make 4 patties ( mine made 5)
4) Cook in sauce pan or grill them
My final meal included lamburgers, saute mushrooms, chopped celery, green grapes, mini peppers and mint water. It’s a simple healthy meal. You will feel like royalty eating lamb any day of the week when it’s not a holiday.
The difference between lamb and beef is that lamb is tastier. Do you agree?
Random Lamb facts:
