It’s summer time for the looney tunes of Arizona. Meaning there is NO SCHOOL or is there? When I was growing up by a single parent my days consisted of summer programs and too much television. My brain took a vacation from learning. This is not the case where I nanny.

I nanny for five children. Four of them are boys. I am learning a lot about what it looks like to rear boys. This is one of the instances.I was busy baking zucchini banana bread with the tunes kids and we noticed the mixer was broken so the batter had to be done by hand. How did those pioneer women do it? I imagine the typical American response is to either donate the mixer or trash it. The mother thought outside the box and used the mixer as a learning opportunity.

The mom knew one of the boys enjoyed taking electronics apart to see how they operate. WOW, it’s a genius idea. It’s a cheap and FREE educational opportunity. Do you have any broken electronics in your home? If so, it’s engineering time!

Another FREE educational idea. I went with the children a few weeks ago to the Arizona Chocolate Factory. I don’t know if it’s the homeschooling environment but one of the kids asked and wanted to bring his notebook to take notes on the chocolate tour. The simple act of having your kids taking notes at museums will prepare them for their future in college and occupation.

There are no needs for flashcards when life offers so many learning opportunities if we have eyes to see them.

This is a mold for the chocolate mint! It takes about 3 hours for this particular chocolate to be made. At Cerreta’s Fine Chocolate Factory they reported that the average American consumes about 11 pounds of chocolate a year.
