Today I Choose to Say “YES” to Being Thankful

The secret on how to be a natural smiler is to be thankful for the things in your life. Ann Voskamp said in her book One Thousand Gifts Devotional that giving, “thanks (is) the highest form of thought”. It’s easy to complain because it takes more energy to think about what you do appreciate. Voskamp also said that it is the “Great thinkers [who] are the grateful thankers — the real greats live gratefully.” The people who are rich in this world are the one’s who find joy in life, and in order to find joy, you must think habitually about what you are thankful for in this life. It is the artists, entrepreneurs and leaders who are open to the awe of this world. Let’s be successful together by thinking on a daily-basis what we are thankful for today.

“Thanks (is) the highest form of thought.”

5 Guidance Questions on

How to be a Greatful Thanker

1) What would you miss if you were living in a foreign country?

What things would be challenging living without? (If you really want to know the answer to this then I recommend you should go and do it.) [example] To give you an idea I am thankful for: electricity, warm water, toilet paper and soap in public restrooms, taxi’s, western restaurants, warm weather, internet, Skype, pumpkins, clean water, English speakers, books, ice cubes, good coffee and Kindle.

2) What would be difficult to give up?

Think through your day. What thing would you miss if someone challenged you to give it up to support an organization you believed in for a month? For example, give up Starbucks once a week to support a child’s education in Uganda. Supporting education is the key to ending poverty, diseases and war.

3) Which family or friend makes living in this world sunnier for you?

Why? Which moments do you wish you couldn’t let slip away? ( I am sure that person would love to hear your appreciation of them.)

4) Who or what gives you purpose for living?

(Why do you get out of bed in the morning? Why were you created? Are you living out your purpose?)

5) Who do you invest your time, finances, and things into?

Where you invest is where your treasure is. Do your investments match up with your values? The person who is loving others will experience joy in life, aka: causing them to smile. Loving others changes your heart.
