This was the mindset during World War 2 in the 1940’s.
“Don’t waste anytime.”
Now I am sure this quote was mainly referring to husbands and loved ones leaving during this sad period of time in our history and was preached to remind Americans to love their significant people in their lives. In the 1940’s, newlyweds were the hot new thing like owning iPhones, hence today we have the Baby Boomers. Time was not wasted. We can forget this idea of not wasting time when life’s business distracts us. Time can easily leak. Time can easily be wasted if we don’t monitor it.
Have you ever got so side-tracked on a task that time just flew by and you wondered where it went? Well that happened to me today over a span of five hours. I love creating and I love learning. I was brainstorming some lesson plan ideas that I am hoping to sell online in the future. I must have gotten really into it because my afternoon was gone. I was frustrated with myself afterwards because I was hoping to punch out some posts. The problem was I didn’t map out my task; I didn’t delegate it over a period of time. I just jumped into the idea blindly without organizing it.
If I could forget time management than I am sure we all could use a refresher course on it.
If followed, here are
3 Easy Peasy Ways to Stay on Task:
1) Pre-planning:
Take a few minutes the night before to make a list of tasks you need to do for the following day. Prioritize that list.
2) Minimize distractions and disruptions.
Don’t be in a busy place where the person walking by distracts you every few minutes. Don’t multi-task. Close email, Facebook, Twitter and only look at what you are working on. Let the people around you know when you are taking a break, to not disrupt you unless it’s important or to email you. Every time you are disrupted it takes even longer to get focus.
3) Manage Timing:
Take breaks. Use a timer for the task. (You can also set a timer every 10 minutes with an alarm to remind you to stay on task.) Give yourself a certain amount of time for that task.
This mindset of not wasting anytime is more than getting distracted but it is also thinking about where you invest your time? If you manage your time wisely than you can invest it where you truly want it.
What do you do to stay on task?
