What Kind of Wedding Photographer Do You Want To Hire?

As Hamlet would say, “All the world’s a stage,” and that’s exactly how it was for my photography friends and I on a beautiful sunny Friday in California. There were “Ahh’s” infinity from us desert Arizonians walking in the neighborhoods lined with towering oaks and trimmed green lawns. We spent about two hours exploring the Pasadena’s City College and downtown area with our cameras. Since there were lots of cameras, there was a lot of stopping and going and taking pictures of us taking pictures.

We were a team of photographers traveling with Minkmade for a wedding. Below I would like to discuss the types of wedding photographers you could hire to document your wedding day.

These are the Four Types of Wedding Photography Styles:

1) Photojournalistic (or documentary): The photos would be candid and spontaneous; people wouldn’t be looking at the camera. This style allows for true expression of the wedding day.
2) Formal and creative portraiture: These photos are posed and traditional. A favorable reason for shooting this style is that it allows for flawless family portraits, but it is also time consuming.
3) Fine- Art: This style allows for the photographer to be more artistic with their angles and points of view. This style creates works of art that could be hung in a museum. Instead of digital, fine-art tends to be shot with film.
4) Edgy, Bold: This style is similar to the fine-art style but includes unconventional framing and tilted angles. This photography style is perfect for couples who like artistic pictures.
There are four main types of wedding photography styles but photographers can do a blend of these techniques. It’s important when interviewing potential photographers to ask them what is their main photography style and if they blend any of the other styles.

Bri is a fine-art photographer. She shoots film in Arizona and is graduating from Arizona State University this Spring.

Here are some pictures I documented of a Pasadena student practicing an African dance called Capoeira. Benjamin told me that historically American slaves would practice this Brazilian martial art and disguise it as a dance to prevent themselves from being punished.

I hope this post was informative on the photography styles to ask when seeking a wedding photographer.

If you are a bride seeking a wedding photographer and like my photography style I would love to document your day.  If my style isn’t what you’re looking for I would love to refer you to a photographer.

If you’re not a bride and your a reader visiting 10,000 Smiles, what is your favorite wedding photography style and why?
