Are you a mother of young children, in a constant hustle with juggling raising them, caring for the home and working outside the home? When I get sick it disrupts my whole family’s dynamic and even sometimes, it’s not even possible to have help in caring for my kiddos-meaning- I have to push through the sickness. Getting sick doesn’t feel like an option. Are you a mother working outside the home and  can’t afford to have sick days from work? No one wants to be sick, so the solution is supporting our immunity to make the odds ever in our favor!

5 Immunity Boosting Tips for Moms in the Winter Months

1) Probiotics

Our overall health starts with our gut! I discovered a seasonal probiotic subscription that delivers fresh probiotics to your door each month. What I appreciate about the Jetson probiotic is that they rotate the probiotic strands each season to expose your gut to more strains and to support what your body needs that season. This past month I enjoyed their Mood probiotic. I definitely felt like I noticed a difference in my body feeling supported in the bustle of the holiday seasons and these dreary St. Louis winter days.

Nursing Moms Give Your Bodies The Best Tools Available

Having a quality probiotic, like the Jetson, encourages proper nutrient absorption. When we get more nourishment then our baby gets more too. I am all about maximizing the nourishment of my foods for myself and my baby. A vital way for a nursing mom to stay healthy is taking probiotics regularly.

2) Elderberry

During the winter months when flu and colds are rapid. I love including a teaspoon of elderberry to my diet to boost my immunity. When I have come in contact with someone that is sick or am starting to feel an illness come on, it’s recommended to increase that dosage up to 4 teaspoons. I discovered this business, The Elderberry Co, that not only includes local honey in their recipe but a high concentrated fruit, aronia berries, full of antioxidants.

3) Sauerkraut

Would you like to make healthier breast milk? Probiotics from sauerkraut is one important way nursing moms can remain healthy.

Probiotics from sauerkraut have the following benefits:

-support our glucose levels

-offer postpartum mental and emotional support

-support with weight management efforts

Daily adding some sauerkraut to your diet will help you feel like the super mom you are- feeling good and healthy! Feel good from the inside out with Wild Brine’s range of delicious sauerkraut recipes! If you have the time you can make your own sauerkraut and I recommend using Wellness Mama’s recipe here.

4) Apple Cider Vinegar

If you are like my two year old daughter and I we enjoy flavoring our water with apple cider vinegar to support our immunity! Yes, you heard that correctly. My two year old will request to have apple cider vinegar! (What worked for us, was giving it to her around her first birthday when she had gotten sick. Ever since she has enjoyed its flavor.) If you aren’t partial to the flavor I recommend this honest brand of ingredients called Glow Nutrition. Their website includes a list of them many health benefits that apple cider vinegar has to offer!

5) Vitamin D

As a nursing mom it was recommend I have about 5,000-6,000 IU/d of vitamin D to meet not only my body’s needs but my baby’s. In addition to having vitamin D, Ritual has 9 essential nutrients our bodies need, including Omega 3! You can take all these nutrients in one pill versus several different ones. I appreciate how these pills are created with clean ingredients and that the oils/dry ingredients are separate but designed in two small pills.

You mom are a super hero in my book! You deserve taking care of yourself and modeling to your children how to have foundational habits of self-care. In addition, if you are a nursing mom, the more nourishment/immunity boosting you get, the more your baby will receive.

A healthy mom means a healthy baby and healthier children. Our children are closely modeling every habit that we practice! When we include probiotics in our diet it helps our bodies properly absorb nutrition and gives us a bonus of natural energy, which we know- us moms need as much energy as possible to run after a toddler.
