I speak for a large percentage of the population in America who hasn’t seen a slaughter house. I still have never seen a chicken killed but a few days ago witnessed for the first time a place where they slaughter chickens.
I saw the live oblivious chickens in the cages awaiting their fatal destination. The man was deplucking the feathers of a chicken and you could see in the one room slaughter house the other past deaths. Feathers painted the floors and walls and blood was splattered about the place. It looked like the perfect haunted house setup in America but real. This slaughter house didn’t look as peaceful as the one on the movie Food Inc.
I will still eat chicken but the image of the slaughter house haunts me. In the cities in America you don’t see chickens walking the street like you do sometimes in China. In China you are reminded where and what your food once was. It was an educational experience to connect my mind to where that chicken on my plate came from.
How do you feel about knowing or actually seeing how and where your food comes from?
