How to Become Your Child’s Best Educator

TIME, is our most valuable commodity!
As mothers and individuals, we want for our lives and our children’s time to explore, learn and pursue our interests. Anytime we deviate from the norm it feels risky, including the area of education.

Would love to hear from you moms! What is one area you are currently exploring an interest? Currently for me I love learning how we learn and how to foster a holistic approach to education for the whole person. So I am reading Montessori and holistic resources.

I am currently gaining insight and ideas from reading the book “Wild and Free”. The author discusses that we as our child’s mom are their best educator because “we can lead by example!” What an honor we have been gifted and what a high calling. When we pursue knowledge in our own lives our children see this. When we challenge ourselves with difficult areas/tasks our children witness this. Ask yourself, “Are you challenging yourself and if so, what was it recently?”

Recently, yesterday I took apart a playground dome that was aging. It was heavy and also difficult to take the pieces apart but I did it. My children got to witness me struggle and push through the challenge.

When our children see us interact and navigate our family and friends relationships they are seeing the framework. What are some skills they are learning from seeing your interactions with them?

We are guiding our children, the questions are “Are we guiding them on how we truly desire and are we leading by that example?”

What are some values you want to instill in your children?
Some of mine to just name a few: self-care in their mind, body and soul.

How do you want their self-talk to sound like?
I spend time teaching children about themselves, giving them skills and abilities on learning about their emotions through meditation, emotion labeling and breathing exercises.

Does your time reflect your priorities?
I practice daily habits that reflect my priorities: eating green smoothies for nutrition, yoga for exercise, meditation for my mind, reading for learning, and daily deposits of affirmation with friends and family. With my own children I personally also do prayer with them.

The author addresses fathers too! Hi Dads! Welcome to tuning in my video series! The message of being “Wild and Free” is for fathers too, any parental figure “who take(s) on this all-important work of raising and educating their children at home.” If you are a father, I welcome you to be inspired by my discoveries. I thank you for supporting your family and for all that you do in cultivating your children’s hearts, minds and bodies.

Similar to the author, my focus is on inspiring moms and the gifts they bring to their family. So for this video series I will be directing my attention to moms!

Share below in the comments one way you could grow in being a better leader for your children and yourself? Myself, I could grow in valuing and protecting self-care “me” time. Showing my children what that looks like weekly.

Would love to hear from you!
