St. Louis Summer Camp: Why Your Child Will Benefit from a Place-Based Summer Camp

Why Your Child Will Benefit from a Place-Based Summer Camp

Place-based summer camps are a great way for children to spend their summer vacation. These camps offer a unique combination of outdoor activities, academic enrichment, and social interaction.

Benefits of place-based summer camps
There are many benefits to attending a place-based summer camp. These camps can help children:
* Develop a love of nature: Place-based summer camps often take place in natural settings, such as forests, parks, or beaches. This gives children the opportunity to explore the outdoors and learn about the natural world. (At Little Leaders Academy we are outside the majority of the time and see a lot of wildlife since we are near a creek (our outdoor learning lab is fenced in).

This summer we will explore:

*Signs in Nature & Survival: Children will learn to “read” the signs of nature from learning to tell time using the sun to tracking and foraging wild edibles & building a survival shelter!

*Oceans

*Geology

* Learn about their local community: Place-based summer camps often focus on teaching children about the history and culture of their local community. This can help them to develop a sense of place and pride in their community. (At Little Leaders Academy we often have the children retell Native American stories.)
* Make new friends: Place-based summer camps can be a great way for children to make new friends. These camps often provide opportunities for children to work together on projects and activities.
* Learn new skills: Place-based summer camps can teach children a variety of skills, such as outdoor skills, arts and crafts, and leadership skills. These skills can help them to become more well-rounded individuals. Daily at Little Leaders Academy we practice emotional development: breathing, affirmations, meditation and yoga. We do a lot of STEAM, cultural studies and activities that develop entrepreneurial skills/traits. We have an open house this Wednesday!
