Lesson, Question Your Tongue

Do you have children that frequently tear each other down with their words? Is this consistently true? Poisonous words reveal the depths of a bitter heart. Some adults never reflect on their hearts to search the bitterness growing within themselves. It’s during child rearing, prayer and/ or reflection the mouth can be tamed.

James 3:5

So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.
How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!

At nannying today my boss had an idea. After leading the four boys I nanny through a devotion each boy was given three slips of paper. I asked each boy to write to God about each brother explaining the following:
1) How would you feel if tomorrow your brother were to be in heaven?
2) What would you miss about that brother?
3) Would you have any regrets about how you treated him?

These questions may seem extreme but they allow the child to reflect on their heart towards their brother. The lesson allowed the child to ponder what really matters in the world- and that is loving one anther.
These questions were very emotional for the boys but they raise great questions! The lesson is convicting. Whether your a Christian or not there are people in our lives we can love better.
This lesson can be applied to all of us. I see adults frequently who under score each other with their words who have never learned the lesson of taming their mouths. Our words are powerful and can be building or destructive!

Readers: Who can you love better? And how?
Who could you build up? ( tone, words and expression)
Mothers: Do you know of other reflective questions or ideas on sibling love?
