You’re scrolling through dreamy wedding photos on Pinterest. Your eyes come to a halt and you stop scrolling. Your heart pulls at the thought of you having a wedding day photo like this one. You feel immediately connected to it. “I must have this photo,” you think out loud in your head.
Or maybe you’re on Facebook or Instagram and it’s your friend who just released a wedding photo of theirs that you fall in love with and feel inspired by.
These are great opportunities to think through this Wedding Tip on How to Communicate your “Must-Have” Couple Portraits.
The single more important question to ask yourself when encountering photos you adore and desire for your own wedding is:
“What is it you like about the photo?”
From that one question, you can start diving in a little deeper with these follow up questions:
“What is it about the photo that you like? Was it the emotion? the positioning? the area? the framing?”
When I work with couples I have them complete a wedding guide full of questions to help me prepare for their wedding day, included in the guide is a section of must have photos.
It’ll help to choose your top 5-10 “must-have” photos prior to any photography meeting you have.
Bring them to your photographer so they know and can shoot exactly what your heart desires. I encourage you to keep the list short and to have moments photographed as they happen versus a checklist as that can take from the raw emotion.
Your photographer wants to make your wedding day Pinterest worthy on it’s own. Believe that your wedding day story will unfold uniquely. Lighting circumstances, vegetation environment, weather conditions and the chemistry of the couple will all play a big role in making your story your very own. Trusting your wedding photographer allows for them to do their job of creativity. They will feel the freedom to show the love between your spouse and you without parameters.
We will discuss Wedding Tip on How to Communicate your “Must-Have” Couple Portraits. For example, the photo above:
A bride, “I like the idea of me holding onto my groom by his tie and the playfulness evoked in this image.” A bride, “I like how the groom is holding the bride like a princess or a threshold carry.”
Photo below:
A bride, “I like how the groom is holding the bride like a princess or a threshold carry.”
A Bride, “I love editorial photos; I understand they share my wedding day story. I like how this photo features the brides hair and intimacy of touch.”
A bride, ” I love this romantic photo and would like to have a close up photo of me guiding my groom in for a kiss.”
A bride, ” I love how this photo is a scene of them dancing together and the emotion of them being the only two in the world.”
It is important to communicate what portraits are most valuable to you. You don’t want to miss one cherished moment on your wedding day. When you receive your shots you will be thankful and glad you did.
