I had an interesting conversation with a sophisticated business owner who gave me some food for thought that I wanted to share with you.
Below are some scenarios to think through:
Your in a coffee shop and the woman at the table to the left of you is having an argument with another person on the other line. Do you feel uncomfortable? Is the noise level inconsiderate of other people in this public setting? (picture does not highlight scenario)
Your at a grocery store and a person in line is having a conversation describing their health issues.
You work in retail and the customer in line is on the phone and either wants you to wait for them to be off the phone to serve them or wants you to interrupt their call. Is the customer being rude or inconsiderate?
Should all phone calls be taken in private when in public areas? For example, your in a restaurant and receive a call. You can either not answer it or answer it. When answering you can say, “I can’t talk right now but I will call you later” or “please hold on for one second while I step outside”.
Our generation hasn’t been taught what is polite when it comes to using the cellphone! The question is “Would you tell the strangers surrounding you directly what your telling that person on the other line?” Whether we realize it or not, the surrounding people in ear shot are hearing intimate conversation on our side of the line!
