Children in the Marketplace

Just a typical day in China buying some eggs with my husband in a street market and I saw these two children.

I love the simplicity of child’s play. Do you remember entertaining yourself with simple items? What was the strangest item you used to entertain yourself as a kid? I remember sometimes not even using physical items, but only my imagination. Has anyone ever pretended they were driving the car from the backseat with an invisible steering wheel? Yep, that was me as a little girl.

The picture below is my favorite. My interpretation: Their facial expressions show they are trying to figure out, “What is this foreigner doing? Why is she taking pictures of me?”

You can tell the little girl was enjoying the modeling shoot. Not only was she trying to figure me out, I was trying to figure her out. Her expressions were priceless.

The little boy had endless entertainment. He wasn’t fazed from my paparazzi persona.

Body language speaks volumes when conversation is difficult. As my husband has observed, “Children act like children everywhere.” This little girl was a lot of fun to play peek-a-boo with. I wondered what she was thinking while I was snapping pictures of her and the other boy.

Enjoy life and enjoy the blessings of children.
