Your wedding is the biggest event you will ever plan. Family and friends travel far and wide to witness the everlasting commitment you will be making to your spouse. An excellent way to bless them is to gift them with goodies that are helpful. A wedding is a celebration of your new union. In some Eastern cultures they celebrate weddings for days. A way to step your Western wedding up a notch is to create items that will bring your guests comfort.
15 Helpful Wedding DIY Tips
1) Less Traveling:
Many weddings include guests traveling from out of state or country to attend your wedding. An easier plan for your guest is to have the ceremony and reception in one location so there is less confusion on directions. If you decide on one location take your pictures on site during the cocktail hour; it will save time so you can spend more time with your guests.
2) Vacation Information:
On your wedding website have a page dedicated to including information for out-of-town guests. If the wedding destination is held in the city you reside in, share with your guests the inside tourist hotspots. Don’t forget to include what unique cuisine your city has to offer.
3) RVSP Options:
A. When your guests are RVSPing on your wedding website ask them if they have any recommended playlists or songs.
B. Have 3 a-la-carte dinner options.
4) Ceremony Favors:
Whether you live in the Arizona desert heat or have a wedding during a warm season, these two favors will bless your guests: water bottles and ceremonial programs designed like fans. No one enjoys sweating in fashionable attire.
5) Flip Flops:
Have a basket full of flip flops for women to wear when their feet get sore from their high heels. If your looking for a deal you can buy flip flops at Hobby Lobby or Old Navy when they have their $1 sales.
6) Bathroom Goodies:
Have a basket with a note of bathroom goodies in the guest’s bathroom. Here are some items to consider: floss, breath mints, bandaids, lotion, probiotics (Tylenol), Enzyme tablets (Petabizmal), perfume/cologne, nail clippers, hair ties, bobby pins and safety pins.
7) Instagram Scavenger Photo Contest:
When you hand out the ceremonial program you can add the details of what you want guests to Instagram with your hashtag. For example #lastnamewedding. Make sure your hashtag hasn’t been used and that your MC announces the contest during cocktail hour. Near the end of the reception the MC can announce whoever completed the list and reward them with a gift card intended for a date (ex. ice cream or movie theater tickets).
Here is an example list for a Wedding Instagram Scavenger Hunt:
8) Save Precious Time:
If you want to maximize your time with your wedding guests do all your formal pictures and first look before the ceremony.
9) Provide Entertainment:
During the cocktail hour of the wedding provide lawn games like: corn hole, croquet, ribbons, twister and chalk.
10) Hire Help:
Hire a few trusted babysitters from Care.com or babysitters.com at one of the hotels that the guests are staying at so parents can party to the wee hours of the evening.
11) Label Dessert Table:
Food allergies are the new craze and another way to take an extra measure of showing love towards your wedding guests. Label the dessert table for food allergies. For example: Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies.
12) Plant Name Cards and Wedding Favors:
Create personalized succulent pots labeled with a guest’s name. After the festivities the guests can take the plant home and replant it in their yard. The guests can then watch it grow like your new marriage.
13) Recognize the Beauty of Marriage Dance:
During the dancing portion of the night have the MC or DJ invite all the marry couples onto the dance floor. About every 30 seconds slowly ask guests married less than X amount of years to leave the dance floor. Congratulate the last couple standing and ask them if they have any wisdom on a healthy marriage. A bonus is to gift the wedding couple a gift card for a date night.
14) Plugged in:
A. At each table have a throwaway camera and invite guests during cocktail hour to take pictures of people and events. Afterwards you will be blessed with film photography.
B. Your Guests are Videographers: If you want full covered documentation of your wedding and for less money check out Wedit. This company gives you mini video recorders that you send back and they edit the footage. (Note: Ask guests when they are recording during the ceremony to do it from their seat.)
15) Day After Brunch:
This idea plays off of loved ones traveling far. The following morning you and your hubby can enjoy a mini reunion and spend more time with your guests before your honeymoon.
