Tempe Marketplace Engagement: Cory + Shelby

Adventure met Passion last year on a four day hike through Havasupai Falls in the Grand Canyon. Their parents had known each other for years. On day two of the 40 mile hike they were “inseparable”. Shelby recounts, “We spent each night sitting at the base of a waterfall, stargazing, getting to know each other. We had our first kiss under a huge waterfall and a billion stars. It was definitely like something out of a movie. I honestly thought I’d never see him again after that weekend, but that he’d given me a wonderful adventure to go home and share with my friends. Lucky for me, he stuck around and became a permanent part of my life.”

On their free time together they enjoy the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and hiking to a waterfall in Sedona.

They both love coffee and tea.

They love taking in the beauty that surrounds them. I saw them looking out at this Arizona wash and thought it captured the essence of their heart for adventure.

“In January, Cory brought me to Southeast Asia to travel through Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore with two of his close friends. One night while we were staying in a beach bungalow in Chumphon, Thailand we went for a walk on the beach around sunset. Cory was being goofy and was trying to knock coconuts out of a tree with some sticks. I couldn’t stop laughing at him for being so ridiculous. At some point during our walk, Cory dropped to one knee and surprised me and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes! We spent the next two weeks traveling throughout Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.”

They are in a season of many transitions. They are welcoming their baby boy into this world in October and planning a wedding for March.

They played with sparklers while a perfect Arizona lighting storm brewed in the background of the parking lot of Tempe Marketplace.

The possibilities are endless for Cory and Shelby when adventure and passion walk this life together.
