Arizona’s Culinary Dropout: The Yard Wedding

A trendy warehouse recently opened in the Tempe downtown area this year. There a team of Phoenix creatives took jolly ranchers, plastic bottles, clear glass and designed a classic and modern Arizona wedding. The wedding designer from Simply Refined Events, was inspired by the artist Chihuly and his  “…use of colors along with the transparency and suspension of his art.”

It is with excitement to announce that this Classical Modern Affair Wedding Inspiration was featured on a local state blog today: Arizona Weddings. My creative and team and I would personally like to thank Vikki from Arizona Weddings  for this opportunity to feature local Arizona wedding vendors!

The wedding designer, Michelle, shares her vision for this modern shoot: “We took a classic look with a bit of a modern twist. Classic meaning less is more with a simplistic setting while adding a modern flair to the overall look and feel of the room. Pops of color, a transparent table with the feel of suspension along with the inspiration of a very modern artist gave us the freedom to be less correct, freer with the design and not so matchy matchy. You can do so many variations of what we did in our shoot along with adding some DIY projects as well.”

I love these simple modern napkin rings and swirl centerpieces, they are easy to make and affordable. See below for their DIY instructions.

“DIY: Napkin rings were made using gold floral wire, each one is unique as we just started twisting and turning them until we liked the way they looked. We added a small paper flower for that pop of color against the ivory napkin and just laid it on top of the napkin.”

“DIY: The centerpiece swirls of color were made by painting plastic water bottles and cutting them. The look is indigenous to Chihuly in which he uses blown glass and creates these spiral masterpieces that hang from above.”

One of the amazing perks of hosting your wedding at a restaurant is that they serve amazing inhouse drinks and foods.

Cleverness runs in the Arizonian bakeries. This Chihuly inspired wedding cake is a dream cake for the artist bride. The modern wedding cake was created “…along the same lines of simplicity with a pop of color. The glass like pieces coming out are actually melted jolly ranchers…”

I will end on this happy note, “crazy little thing called love…”

A wedding day  is a beautiful day to witness and so is the journey a couple makes when walking out their years of marriage. Here is a sweet quote from Timothy Keller on the beauty of marriage, “In any relationship, there will be frightening spells in which your feelings of love dry up. And when that happens you must remember that the essence of marriage is that it is a covenant, a commitment, a promise of future love. So what do you do? You do the acts of love, despite your lack of feeling. You may not feel tender, sympathetic, and eager to please, but in your actions you must BE tender, understanding, forgiving and helpful. And, if you do that, as time goes on you will not only get through the dry spells, but they will become less frequent and deep, and you will become more constant in your feelings. This is what can happen if you decide to love.” ― The Meaning of Marriage: Facing the Complexities of Commitment with the Wisdom of God
