BIGGEST TAKE AWAYS:

-Living a simpler life allows for us to be less stressed and ultimately have the space to be our fullest potential.

-When we gain ________ there is something lost in the process in our life.

Do you still have wonder when it comes to learning? Do you notice that wonder and childlike innocence when it comes to learning in your toddler/preschooler?

I am on a journey of raising holistic leaders and empowering them to find their calling. In that process I am discovering what that looks like starting with us the moms, fueling ourselves so we have the power and energy to fill our children’s cups.

In the book, Wild and Free, the author discusses that childhood has been lost.

She comments that childhood has been lost to technology, clubs, extra-curricular activities, the busy homework assignments….ultimately busy schedules.

I can’t agree with her more and would add and challenge, where in our mom lives have we lost our identity?

Stress.

A 2014 study reported that the “average reported stress in children during the school year exceeds that of adults.” It’s a known fact people can’t learn when they are under stress.

The thought that comes to my mind, “I want to give my children the very best life”. When there is gain there is something lost in the process. The author comments that “—we have traded their souls for a life in the rat race.”

That hits me hard. I myself don’t want to be in the rat race and certainly don’t desire that for my children. A question I have for you, “What is lost with all these “best of everything”-

Another truth I hold and wrestle with, I want to start my children early with their academic development. The author reported that studies are showing that “late is okay” on those developments because it’s better for their whole beings-mind, body and soul. A less stressful environment is a win for our developments.

What would it look like in your life and your child’s to not fill your knowledge bucket but light your wonder on fire?

Our children only get one childhood. Moms we only get one season to be in our 20’s and 30’s. The author states that a magical childhood is found in the simplicity. I would add a magical season for mothers, who we are, is found in the simplicity.

Children are born with wonder and a desire to learn. The author says, “It’s our job to not take that away.” Moms, do you still hold wonder in your own life?

My question for you as a mom is where in your life: body, faith, relationship with your spouse or children or occupation could you explore, discover and/or play? What is the one action step you can take today to make that change?

Would love to hear from you!
