Veils add another beautiful element to a bride’s wedding attire. There are so many gorgeous veils in the market so I asked a wedding boutique, Suzanne’s Bridal to share their advice:

4 Tips on Choosing Your Wedding Veil

“There’s something magical about a veil. It has the power to turn an ordinary woman into a beautiful, blushing bride. It turns moms and best friends into blubbering balls of joy, and leaves dads and grooms staring in awe. Of course, veils aren’t for every bride. But if you do opt for one, there are some things to consider before you make your veil selection.

Consider the length. Long cathedral veils are stunning, but do you want or need that much length? If your dress is classic and romantic, the answer may be, “Yes!” In that case, go for it! Cathedral veils also work as a substitute for a train. If your wedding gown doesn’t have as long of a train as you’d like, a cathedral veil gives the illusion of a longer gown train. Keep in mind that some cathedral veils can feel heavy on the head, particularly if it has lots of beads or a large lace pattern. For some weddings, that might not be optimal. A beach bride, for instance, may not want that weight as she’s strolling across the sand. Short and birdcage style veils are flirty and cute. If that’s your personality, go for this style veil. They often complement gowns with a vintage or retro feel. For most brides, a veil that falls between the elbow and the fingertip is going to be the best bet. This classic length is flattering on most brides and suits most gowns.

Consider your dress. Have you chosen an ornate gown with lots of sparkle or bold lace patterns? Don’t diminish your dress by wearing an over the top veil. Choose an uncomplicated style. If your gown is lace, select something with a ribbon edge. A double layered, tulle veil is a nice choice for a beaded gown.  If your gown has a simpler, classic feel, jazz it up with a bold, lace patterned veil or a sparkly edged veil. Also, be sure to select a veil that matches the color of your gown. Don’t choose a white veil if your dress is ivory. Select a color that matches your gown’s fabric for the best look.

Consider the rear view. Dresses with sexy backs are on trend right now. Everywhere you look there are gowns with deep V backs or illusion lace panels. If you’ve selected a gown with dramatic back details, don’t hide them under an overpowering veil. Choose a veil with a single layer of sheer tulle so that your admirers can see the lovely details of the gown. Be sure to know where the veil is going to fall approximately, too. Don’t let the edge of the veil hit a spot on your body where it will detract from a back detail that you want to show off. Remember, your veil should complement your gown.

Consider your accessories. Again, the idea is to complement, not detract. If you already have earrings and a necklace you plan to wear, consider them when selecting your veil. Perhaps select something with beads or stones that match your jewelry. Or, if your jewelry is ornate, consider a veil without any bead work at all. In any event, don’t overdo it. You want your guests to see you…not the million accessories you piled on.

The best way to select a veil is to spend some time trying different styles on with your gown. A professional bridal consultant can help you discover what veil styles work for you. If you’re a bride that has vetoed a veil, a consultant can help you decide on other hair accessories that will finish you wedding look. Whatever you choose, be confident if your style. You’ll walk down the aisle looking like the best version of you.”
