See you Later Tianjin

We have been in Tianjin for a little over three weeks training with Kings English for Kids. That has entailed learning their curriculum, observing classes and me giving one demo. A demo is a class given to potential clients to see if they would like to enroll their student at the school.

China has a lot of English schools to offer. It has been eye opening to see parents care about their children’s education so much. Let me paint you a picture. When the class is being held parents can monitor the lesson two ways: a live feed projected on a plasma screen in the waiting area, or through the large window into the class. Face prints are a must for any English school lesson.

Now that we have been in Tianjin for almost a month we have learned the: nearest street vendors (my vendor for bananas ;D), local Carrefour market, expats’ market, subway stations, and our schools are located. When we arrive in Qingdao we get to repeat the process. I bet with practice this acclimating gets easier. I am really hoping my husband and I are blessed to befriend someone who understands how to navigate the grocery store and tell us what some of this mystifying food is.

A word to a servant’s heart/community giver: If you befriend a foreigner ask them if they would like you to go with them to the grocery store. Now having been a “three week” foreigner I understand how essential it was taking our foreign exchange student from Mauritania to Fry’s.

We leave for Hogwarts Qingdao this Sunday on a train. I am hoping to see lots of China’s countryside. I’m exhilarated to get settled and buy essentials for the kitchen: blender (for healthy smoothies my body is craving) and spices to zazz my food.

Tianjin at dusk with the smog!

If you visit Tianjin, China I recommend visiting a restaurant called Helen’s. Look it up on Google. A mouthwatering juicy hamburger and chips (but they are really fries) awaits you.The joint has international flags and illuminating lanterns strung about it. They play American music and it’s filled with artsy garfitti. I give it 4 stars.

Below is the table we sat at. The hostess sat us with three other people, a couple and her friend. I liked that we were with other people because it opened up a night full of conversation.

Helen’s, a restaurant in Tianjin that Expats give gold stars to.

Very hipster.

It will be an adventure getting internet again. See you later gators from Qingdao.
