Are You a Consumer or A Giver?

When a person has a consumer mentality, ” it’s more like a business transaction.

‘How can I give the least amount of money and commitment and get the most return on investment?’

… A Christian mentality is,

“How can I give my money, my time, my gifts, my capacities, my abilities, and where could I help bring unity and health to our church family?

This quote from Mark Driscoll’s sermon made me really think of giving in other facets of our life. What if our mindset was about contributing instead of take, take, take? The alternative is abusive towards others; Mark Driscoll commented that the consumer is a thief. I don’t know where you are at in “giving”, but I do know there is always room for improvement. We could never over love a person. Giving doesn’t necessarily mean giving financially, (which it could) but it also means giving your time, gifts, and resources.

Think through on how you can give to the relationships in your life:

God

spouse

children

family

friends

co-workers

strangers

What are some ideas you came up with? Where are you needed? Where can you love on someone today?

Quote and idea from Mark Driscoll’s sermon: “I Am Gifted”. I highly recommend you check out this sermon. It was excellent.
