I am a huge lover of all things holistic and that includes the Young Living Essential Oil, Thieves. This essential oil is a staple in my household and helps me stay healthy so I can photograph weddings. I asked a Young Living consultant, Erin, from Redemption Tempe Church to share her wisdom on this essential oil.

Thieves is the first essential oil blend I heard about when I began researching and discussing oils with a few “hippie” friends. Soon after I heard the urban legend about the herbs that are distilled to make the blend, I thought either my friends had lost their minds, or there was something to this Thieves, and essential oils in general. Today Thieves is a common word in my household, and has even found its way into my 2 year old’s vocabulary.

Thieves Urban Legend:

The story goes that there was a set of four thieves that were robbing the graves of the dead in the 15th Century. These thieves were stealing items after the bodies were discarded but were not catching any of the diseases that were rampant and highly contagious during that time period. Eventually they were caught and they were found wearing clove, rosemary and other botanical herbs. The Thieves blend was inspired by this legend.

Thieves in my Household

Luckily, I am not battling any 15th Century diseases, and I am certainly alive, but the Thieves blend is the most common essential oil blend used in my home. The Thieves essential oil blend consists of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Radiata and Rosemary. This essential oil may help support a healthy immune function and contribute to overall wellness. This blend delivers the naturally derived constitutes limonene, eugenol and eucalyptus. Thieves has a wide range of uses from supporting the healthy immune system of my family, to cleaning my home and taking care of my teeth. Here are some of the top ways I use Thieves.

1. I use it to daily support the healthy immune system of my family. I apply Thieves to everyone in my family before heading out as part of our wellness regimen.
2. I clean with it. Young Living offers a variety of cleaning options, including all purpose cleaner, veggie cleaner, laundry and dish soap, hand wipes and waterless soap.
3. I brush and brighten my teeth with it. You can add it to your oil pulling regimen or utilize Young Living’s toothpaste (which does not contain fluoride, synthetic dyes or preservatives).
4. I add it to my food and drink for flavor. Thieves Tea is my favorite (Thieves, Lemon and Local Honey). It is also a great addition to apple cider and other holiday drinks, the Clove in the blend gives everything a nice spice.
5. I diffuse it. The Clove mentioned above adds a nice spice and smells incredible. Its a great alternative aromatically to candles (no wick, no chemical, or synthetic fragrances). A drop of orange and nutmeg with Thieves creates the smell of Fall and Holiday Cheer.

Thieves is a wonderful essential oil blend and easily one of my top favorite essential oils. I utilize Thieves to clean my floors, counters, dishes, veggies and laundry. I use it to wash my kids hands on the go and support their immune system while they are going nonstop. I love the warm and comforting smell it adds to my home. The Thieves blend is a must for homes desiring a holistic and natural approach to their lifestyle.
